Indoor putting greens: a roll-out mat, a modular green, or custom turf

By The Home Golfer editorial team · Last updated October 5, 2026

An indoor putting green costs $159.99 for an 8 ft Perfect Practice roll-out mat, which the maker rates at 10 to 14 on the stimpmeter, and $2,784 for a 12 by 12 ft modular Tour Links green listed at 11. Custom turf is priced by the square foot. The real limit is usually floor, so measure the room before you compare speeds.

A 12 ft green needs a room longer than 12 ft

Every length in the table is putting surface. You’ll also need somewhere to stand at the start, and a backstop or wall past the cup. A 3 by 9 ft Big Moss covers 27 sq ft. The 12 by 12 ft Tour Links covers 144.

If the green shares a room with a hitting bay, the bay’s depth comes first. Our golf simulator room-size calculator grades a room’s depth and ceiling height, so you can see what floor is left for putting.

Then price the bay. The golf simulator package builds list its floor pieces, and a putting surface is the easier thing to fit around them.

Longest putt under $200, by listed length

Perfect Practice Putting Mat, Extra Long (V5)

15 ft 6 in of surface for $199.99, the longest of the eight under $200. Perfect Practice rates it at 10 to 14 on the stimpmeter and says the speed depends on the floor under it. The width isn’t published, so measure your hallway against the listing photos before you order.

One maker’s stimp range spans four points on the same mat

Perfect Practice lists its mats at 10 to 14 and ties the spread to what sits underneath the mat. Tour Links prints a single figure, 11, for every size, and its greens sit on their own modular polymer base. Big Moss prints none. So a stimp number on a roll-out mat describes the mat on a given floor, and your floor may differ.

Big Moss and Tour Links both ship pads that go under the surface to add break. Perfect Practice doesn’t list any.

Custom turf is quoted per job, not listed

Installers build these in place, and the ones we checked publish no indoor price. Tour Greens asks for project details instead.

The nearest published figure is backyard work: Texas Tuff, a Dallas-area installer, puts professional synthetic greens at $15 to $40 per sq ft and a 150 sq ft green at about $2,250 to $6,000 (April 2026 guide). An indoor job skips drainage and excavation, so use that range only as a check against a quote.

At those rates, 150 sq ft of custom turf starts near the price of the 12 by 12 ft Tour Links, which covers 144 sq ft and moves when you do.

A putting green covers the short game. For full swings in the same room, the surface that matters is a hitting mat with real cushioning, and the golf hitting mats guide compares them by base cushioning and tee options.
