Garmin R10 vs Rapsodo MLM2PRO: which one to buy

The short version: the Garmin Approach R10 (around $600) is the cheaper all-rounder — the easiest, least-expensive way to get honest carry numbers and dabble in simulated golf. The Rapsodo MLM2PRO (around $700) is the accuracy and data step-up — for about a hundred dollars more you add dual cameras, shot-tracer video, and measured spin (with the included marked balls). If you mostly want distances on a budget, the R10. If you want the most accurate sub-$1,000 data and video replay, the MLM2PRO.

They’re close in price and both sit in the home-golfer sweet spot, so this comes down to how much data you’ll actually use — and whether the extra accuracy is worth the marked balls and the step up in cost.

What independent testing found

We don’t test gear ourselves, so here’s what outlets that run these against reference monitors reported — with the caveats left in. Each finding is theirs, at the linked source.

Garmin Approach R10

  • Plugged In Golf (Updated Jan 3, 2025): Outdoors, the tester found the R10 inside Garmin’s published tolerances (ball speed ±1 mph, carry ±5 yd) the vast majority of the time, often perfectly in line with a pro-grade monitor. Spin was occasionally off, especially on wedges and mishits, but they called it accurate enough for the overwhelming majority of golfers.
  • Golf Insider UK (May 21, 2024): A PGA pro tested it against a TrackMan 4 and measured club face-angle errors of 1.5–2.8° and club-path errors of 3.0–3.8° — concluding it is fine for distances but not accurate enough for a low-handicapper working on swing mechanics or club path.
  • Breaking Eighty (Updated Mar 26, 2025): Scored it 9.0/10. Most data points are calculated rather than directly measured, but they judged it impressively accurate relative to its price.

Rapsodo MLM2PRO

  • Plugged In Golf (Updated Oct 5, 2024): Head-to-head against a Foresight GCQuad, ball speed was always within 1 mph (often exact), carry never off by more than 3 yd, and spin within 200 rpm on every shot — but only with the included Callaway RPT marked balls, which are what make spin actually measured. Club speed read about 2 mph high. Their favorite in the sub-$1,000 category.
  • Breaking Eighty (Updated Jul 5, 2025): Scored 9.5/10 and named their Best Launch Monitor Under $1,000 for 2025. Indoor carry variance vs a TrackMan was under 2 yd on gap wedge and 7-iron and about 5 yd on driver.

The pattern: the R10 is accurate on distances outdoors but weak on club path (per Golf Insider UK); the MLM2PRO is the more accurate of the two and adds video, but spin is only truly measured with its marked RPT balls.

Which one for you

Three questions settle it.

  1. Do you want to play simulated courses? Both do it — the R10 through the Garmin app (courses with a membership) and the MLM2PRO through GSPro, E6 Connect and Awesome Golf (Premium adds 30,000+ courses).
  2. How deep is your room? Both are radar units that sit behind the ball and want a deeper space, so neither is the shallow-room pick — that’s a camera unit like the Square Golf.
  3. Will you tolerate a subscription? The R10’s best sim features and the MLM2PRO’s Premium courses both sit behind annual fees, so factor that in beyond the sticker price.

Cheapest way in, doubles as a basic sim → the Garmin R10. Impressively accurate for the price on distances; just not the tool for working on club path, per the PGA-pro test at Golf Insider UK.

Most accurate sub-$1,000 data plus video replay → the Rapsodo MLM2PRO, if you’ll use the marked RPT balls. Named the best launch monitor under $1,000 by Breaking Eighty; within 1 mph and 3 yd of a GCQuad at Plugged In Golf.
